Mooncake Festival is around the corner….to be exact – 14 September 2008.
Another marketing opportunity for the hoteliers/restauranteurs to roll out a series of overly priced, weirdly flavoured mooncakes.
Me, being old school, typically get mine from 大中国. Theirs being wickedly oily and comes with the little melon seeds which you hardly get to find in the upmarket lotus paste mooncakes.
This year, when I was at 大中国, I got 7 boxes for my relatives and some for my own consumption. But was told I had to pay 60 cents for the boxes. Otherwise, I can get them wrapped in wax paper with a red 大中国 label.
How old school can it get? Wax paper!!
Though it may look less presentable as gifts, the wax paper works well for me!!

See!! Old school or not?
And one more reason to use wax paper – save the world, use less packaging.
Even the boxes are old school. I LIKE……….
